Tumblr media
Uni kicking back up so sadly wasn’t able to make anything elaborate today, but have a drunk lady Kirk doodledump with Spock making sure she doesn’t pass out on the floor. I’m a sucker for drunk confession stories with the “wait I said WHAT” moment the next morning, wanna clean these up once I have the time.

I watched every Star Trek episode & here are my opinions.
as the title says – i finished all the Star Trek shows as of today yesterday and since i watched most of them while i wasn't using tumblr, i want do do some mini-reviews – both what i think are objectively the best shows and which are my personal favorites. i might make a couple more "ranking" posts for theme song/pilot/finale/favorite epsiodes/etc eventually but this post is already long as hell. i'll also probably do a movie post sometime but i want to rewatch the AOS movies first since i haven't seen Into Darkness since it came out (before i was actively a Trekkie).
also just as a note, these are fully my own opinions & tastes. i'm not trying to argue that any of these shows are bad (nor are any flawless), i'm just Some Guy giving my opinions.
continued under the cut. apologies for how long this is but there sure is a lot of Star Trek.
Watch Order
my opinions are probably a bit influenced by the order that i first watched these shows in so just as some background – i watched sporadic episodes of TOS & TNG when i was a kid which was enough to be familiar with the characters, general vibes, & world but not enough to really get into it. in late 2020/early 2021 i watched DS9 per a friend's recommendation and really loved it and decided to give all the different shows a shot. i watched all of TNG summer 2021, watched some of Disco & (what was then all of) Lower Decks in fall 2021. i started Voyager spring 2022, was interrupted because of Life Stuff and finished it spring 2023. i watched the first season of snw & prodigy sometime in between then. watched Picard spring 2023 just before s3 aired. watched Enterprise summer/fall 2023. finished Disco spring 2024 (just before s5). did a slow march through TOS between summer 2023 and summer 2024. and finally i watched TAS this past month. and i've been keeping up with all recent releases since 2023.
i've also rewatched a large amount of Trek either with my mom or friends at various times so i've ended up seeing most episodes twice (or more in the case of DS9 & Voyager).
Somewhat Objective Ranking:
there's a large difference for me between shows that i think are objectively good & ones that i'm personally attached to so here's just my attempt at ranking Star Trek shows by how good i think they are from a critical lens, not necessarily my favorite.
for me – a good show, and specifically a good Star Trek show, should have in my opinion a) a diverse & strong cast of characters, b) have unique & compelling plots whether they're based in science fiction, politics, or philosophy, c) has a strong moral center & explores the nature of humanity in some way, d) allows the audience to believe in a better future, e) is consistent (both with continuity and episode quality), f) does something to differentiate it from other shows, and g) is actually entertaining.
i don't think any shows come close to fulfilling all of those qualities but some do better than others.
11. The Animated Series: probably not a surprise that it comes in last. it's a fun show by the standard of kid's cartoon in the 70s and i genuinely do like it but it has a lot of the flaws of TOS (lack of continuity, lack of character depth, flimsy plots) with few of the upsides. though i do like how the secondary characters get more of a focus than in TOS.
10. Enterprise: big jump up in quality here from TAS but Enterprise does fall flat compared to the other shows. the Vulcan & Andorian stories are almost always good but so much of s1 & s2 lacks creativity and a lot of the a plots end up feeling generic & reused (though the b plots are often great). s3 falls into an obvious & uncomfortable 9/11/war on terror metaphor that has not aged well. and s4 is a huge improvement but doesn't make up for the faults of earlier seasons. additionally, i think returning to "the Trio + secondary characters" was largely a mistake as characters like Hoshi & Travis remain horribly underdeveloped (and what a coincidence that they're characters of color...) all in all. some great ideas and a handful of great episodes but it doesn't make up for how meh large swathes of the show can be.
9. The Original Series: i'm going to be honest that it this is the hardest show to objectively rank just because it's the first and it's so hugely impactful not just on the Star Trek franchise (obviously) but also on science fiction, pop culture, TV production, and American culture. its impact is quite literally immeasurable and i think unfortunately it means the show will always feel small in comparison to the shadow it casts. don't get me wrong. some episodes are great even by today's standard, not to mention by the standard of the 60s. but so many episodes, especially as the show went on, end up being pretty mediocre, poorly paced, misogynistic/racist, and have thin plots. TOS is enjoyable for me because of the camp & exploring the foundations of this fictional universe i love so dearly but i'm not going to pretend that it's objectively better than other shows on this list just because of its legacy.
8. Picard: now i could pretty easily judge each season of Picard as its own show and each season would get spaced out in entirely different places on this list. i genuinely believe s1 of Picard is one of the best seasons of Star Trek. the writing fumbles a bit at the end but the characters, direction, & acting is some of the best of the franchise. unfortunately the choice to present each season as a separate anthology reallllly let's it down because of the lack of continuity between seasons. the pandemic definitely threw a wrench into the show but s2 (while i enjoy it), has a very messy meandering plot that feels insecure in its skin. s3 (which i also enjoy) has tighter writing but suffers majorly from having been outlined before the end of s2 therefore having a weird discontinuous transition between seasons and unfortunately excluding so many great characters from s1 & 2. i love it dearly (not to foreshadow my personal favorite ranking) but it is a mess.
7. Discovery: most of the critiques i have of Picard also stand for Discovery which also opted for the "anthology" style series which i think fundamentally doesn't work. Discovery took awhile to find its voice and after s3, still sung somewhat off key. Michael is easily one of the best & most well developed Star Trek characters and the rest of the cast is good but are painfully underdeveloped as its hyperserialized format doesn't really leave time to get to know the characters unless it's essential for the plot. like Picard, it also got screwed over by pandemic-era production leaving some episodes clumsily written. some seasons, in my opinion, end up with an overcomplicated plot that becomes difficult to follow. nevertheless, there are some episodes and scenes that are stunning and somewhat make up for the mis-steps. and ultimately, the later seasons of the show really do understand the heart of Star Trek.
6. Strange New Worlds: going back to an episodic style for the next live action show after the mixed reviews of Picard & Discovery was definitely a good choice. the writing is much tighter, the characters generally feel more whole, and there's more to grab onto compared to entirely serialized shows. and after a lot of the darkness in Discovery and Picard, it feels like a breath of fresh air to have a show that feels joyful & fun. however. so much of SNW is built off of pre-existing Star Trek (mainly TOS) that it struggles to form its own identity and when it tries to be a new show, it gets caught in the trap of betraying existing continuity. the episodes focusing on La'an, Uhura, M'Benga, & Una are great – some of the best of new trek – but episodes focusing on Spock, Chapel, and Pike end up feeling... off with messy writing and being Kinda Weird about disability/genetics. since it's only had two seasons, i definitely think SNW could ascend or descend in the rankings in the upcoming season(s).
5. The Next Generation: TNG wasn't quite as hard for me to rank as TOS but it sometimes struggles with a similar problem that its legacy in pop culture sometimes overshadows the show itself. it's also tricky because when TNG is good, it's phenomenal; when it's bad, it's really bad; but most episodes land somewhere in the middle. s1 is borderline unwatchable, s2 is just a step above, and from there it gets a lot stronger after behind the scene problems were worked out & it found a stable writing staff. it ends up striking a good balance of stories between straightforward science mysteries, deep explorations of philosophy, space politics, and fun romps. it ends up getting dragged down more than a little by Roddenberry's lingering insistence to have the characters avoid long term conflict and the very episodic style resulting in less ongoing story arcs. characters like Geordi, Wes, Beverly, & Troi also end up feeling somewhat underdeveloped in comparison to characters like Picard & Data.
4. Voyager: this is probably one of my more controversial picks (judging by how others tend to rank the series) and maybe i'm biased but i do genuinely believe that Voyager deserves its place this high on the list. Voyager is an inconsistent show which certainly pulls it down a little but manages to strike a better balance in episode quality and is able to have more dynamic characters & more ongoing narratives than TNG. Voyager still has its share of bad episodes and gets off to a somewhat shaky start (particularly struggling in early s2) but finds its groove more easily because of the experienced writing team that already had years of Star Trek under their belt & an excellent cast. Voyager's biggest stumbles are definitely in regards to under-serving some of the characters (especially Chakotay, Tuvok, and Harry) in later seasons.
3. Deep Space Nine: a somewhat obvious pick for top three Trek shows. DS9 has deservedly been getting its praises in recent years for its darker narratives, its bold approach to some of TV's first serialized stories, its exploration of politics & religion, and the masterful way it can bounce between nuanced episodes on serious topics & fun comedy. it flails a little bit in the first two seasons while finding its voice but compared to some of the other shows, it starts off strong and the quality is generally consistent with seasons 4 & 6 being the obvious highlight. however despite the strength of the characters, actors, and writing, there are certainly times when the show fumbles: episodes that get a bit too dark to bounce back from (and aren't followed up on), stories that present some troubling ethics without much pushback, and its fair share of the mediocre scifi mystery episodes seeded throughout 90s Trek.
2. Lower Decks: based on its first season, Lower Decks is a fun but non-serious entry into the Trek pantheon. so it was surprising when what seemed at first glance like a typical irreverent adult animation show, developed so much genuine heart for both the the Lower Decks characters & the wider Trek franchise. Lower Decks could have been an excuse to string together a bunch of fan-servicey references but it becomes genuinely heartfelt with great new characters, fun worldbuilding, actual insightful commentary on existing Trek, and the ability to laugh at itself while still being made with love. while the first two seasons drag it down a little bit (i think they went in too hard with the raunchy comedy vibes), season 3 and especially season 4 are really great especially with the exploration of Mariner's PTSD that strengthens her into one of the best character in Trek.
1. Prodigy: plenty of people have been singing Prodigy's praises since its untimely cancellation and no joke – it is, in my opinion, the best Star Trek show. it is more of a kids oriented show than the other entries on this list (except TAS) but that doesn't mean it lets up on having complex plots & characters. it might be the only Star Trek show that i genuinely believe doesn't have a bad episode (albeit a couple in s1 that are just okay) and s2 as whole is a masterpiece. the only things that let it down in my opinion are: somewhat clunky animation on close-ups (though the background animation is gorgeous) and the plot getting so over complicated by s2 that i had to draw a diagram to keep track of the time travel (and this is coming from someone who loves over complicated time travel stories.)
My Personal Favorite Star Trek Shows:
11. The Animated Series: as i said before – it's fun, i'm glad it exists, it doesn't really offend me, but with the exception of the episode Yesteryear, it doesn't really do anything for me.
10. The Original Series: yeah... i'm sorry. i just don't click with TOS that much (or TOS era in general as you can tell from the rest of this list). i can recognize its importance and there are definitely some episodes i really enjoyed (either for the camp factor or because they're genuinely good) but the majority of the episodes i either don't have much of an opinion on or i think are genuinely bad (in a not fun way). i'm also fine with looking past some of the bigotries of the time but even so the misogyny & racism in the show was just too much for me. sorry.
9. Strange New Worlds: i enjoy SNW for the most part but it's definitely dragged down because 1) i strongly dislike how Spock is written, 2) while i definitely like episodic Trek more, the short episode order does make the episodes i dislike stand out a lot more, 3) a lot of the show is built on nostalgia-bait for TOS era which... i just don't really have. there are great episodes but as a whole, i'm just not attached to it.
8. Discovery: i really disliked the first two seasons of Discovery when i first watched them and though they've grown on me, it's just too dark for me to really get into. seasons 3-5 i like a lot more and i appreciate how earnest & hopeful it is (especially compared to seasons 1 & 2) but the writing can be a bit heavy handed. and as much as i do really love Michael, i definitely prefer shows with a stronger focus on the ensemble as a whole. that said, i am definitely attached to the characters and really love the 32nd century worldbuilding that's done.
7. Enterprise: i'm honestly a bit surprised that i ended up liking Enterprise this much but the fourth season (with the exception of the finale that definitely doesn't exist) is banger after banger. and while the episodes of earlier seasons might be a bit uninspired, the general worldbuilding is genuinely interesting to me with the exploration of Vulcan politics, the Vulcan-Andorian War, the Temporal Cold War, the pre-Federation politics of Earth, and more. i'm also greatly endeared to all the secondary characters (Hoshi & Phlox particularly) which means it's also a shame that the non-Archer, Trip, & T'Pol characters get so little screentime. and while so much of the first two seasons is kinda bleh, the B plots & runners to those episodes end up being really fun and ends up creating a world & characters that feels worth exploring.
6. Prodigy: i think with time (and a possible third season...) Prodigy could become one of my favorite Treks and as i already said – it's very very good. the core cast of characters is really strong with all of them (except for maybe Murf & Jankom Pog) being well developed and compelling. the plot is interesting and feels relatively unique while still feeling like Star Trek at its core. it's also the rare example of a series that has a lot of fan-service while still retaining its identity and the strength of its own characters. ultimately, it ends up ranking lower on here than my more objective tier list because some of the angst & darkness i enjoy in stories doesn't quite deliver (which is very much not a fault of the show since it is a family show), the way Janeway is written doesn't always quite line up with my own view of the character (again, not a fault of the show), and the fact that i just haven't spent as much time with the show & characters yet.
5. The Next Generation: TNG is very much a comfort show to me. i don't have all that much to add from my objective review (there are very bad episodes, very good episodes, but most are somewhere in the middle). i really like all the characters and the behind the scenes friendships really translate well to the screen but none of them really compel me the way characters do further up on this list. i do give the show a lot of credit though for continuing the worldbuilding established in TOS and taking it in a new direction and a new vibes (rather than continuing the space western format) that is hugely influential to all of the shows that came after it.
4. Lower Decks: pretty much the same as my objective review – it's a fun show that ends up finding a good balance of humor, strong characters, and pointed commentary at past Trek shows. it's a show obviously filled with a lot of love for the franchise and i'm very glad it exists. aside from Mariner, i'm not quite as attached to the other characters but i do love them all.
3. Deep Space Nine: as i said before, DS9 is undoubtedly one of the strongest shows in Star Trek. it has the most recurring characters, pretty much all of which i find compelling, and a fantastic cast of regulars as well. the overall plot of the show is incredibly strong and allows it to have a lot of good commentary on imperialism, war, religion, race, and more. it has my two favorite episodes in all of Star Trek (The Visitor and Far Beyond the Stars) and so many other bangers as well. it's the show that first hooked me into Star Trek & the Star Trek fandom and it really is fantastic. the reason it doesn't rank higher here is entirely subjective in that i just don't feel as compelled to explore the characters & fandom as the last two shows on this list. other people have talked about how shows that are too objectively good aren't necessarily the best for fandom and that's how i kind of feel about DS9. it's great. i love it. i'm not necessarily compelled to feel like i have to add to it.
2. Picard: i can recognize that in many ways Picard kinda fails as a show (for reasons i've already stated) but that absolutely does not stop me from loving it. it's extremely messy and i've wanted to fix it ever since i saw it. it might be an unpopular opinion but the worldbuilding developments in s1 (the destruction of Romulus, the synth ban, the general darkness of the Federation) are incredibly compelling to me and i really do like deconstructing Picard as a character (even if i wish he was in the show a little less). and despite some major inconsistencies between seasons, i find the characters wonderfully rich and well written and every time i watch an episode, i feel like i want to explore them more and more. (not coincidentally, it's also the Star Trek show i've written the most fanfic for.)
1. Voyager: Voyager has enthralled me mind, body, & soul. i've never had such a fast turn around from a show that i was meh about to one that constantly consumed my thoughts. it's undoubtedly imperfect but it's imperfect in a way that i feel compelled to want to study and fix. with the exception of maybe DS9, Voyager has the strongest cast of characters and one of the strongest premises of any show. i firmly believe that Kathryn Janeway is the best (and certainly my favorite) Captain in all of Star Trek and most of the characters rank among my favorite Trek characters of all time. even if there aren't a ton of obvious ongoing narratives, the subtle ways the characters change over the 7 years is great and leaves the door open for fandom to explore so much (which as you can tell is definitely something that draws me to a lot of shows). and while DS9 might have my favorite episode of Star Trek, Voyager ends up having more stories that rank amongst my favorites (Year of Hell, Latent Image, Endgame, Barge of the Dead, Bride of Chaotica, Riddles, Survival Instinct, Timeless, etc).
anyways.... that sums that up. i'll probably type up my list of favorite episodes sometime in the next few days because i need to milk the "i watched all of Star Trek" thing for a little bit.

snw episodes rated by Una
in which Una is my unit of measurement, not that this is what she would think of the events
All from memory bc who has time
SPOILERS FOR EVERYTHING
1x01: she’s literally the catalyst for getting Chris off his butt and the whole episode. Barely in it but she did all the detective work for everybody. “Somehow I knew you would” with the little smile and “La’an!” in the softest voice immediately established both relationships and my abiding love for her. She’s literally driving the plot but still not there much; 6/10.
1x02: she shares some LooksTM with Chris. Chris was slightly subdued at one (1) dinner party and Una went something is deeply wrong. Chris is sad and Una tells him to live his gosh darn life. Pretty sure she flies the ship a bit. She’s here. Can’t complain. 6/10.
1x03: OOOOHOHO here we go. Whatever camera angle it is that shoots from the floor to watch people walk away and makes them look tall was excellently utilized. Girl was STRIDING everywhere. Hauled a grown man over her shoulder and was greeted with the shock and awe she deserved. Told her biggest secret (!!!!) to help the crew!!! bc she would sacrifice herself for them!!!!! also she googled her glowworm episode like it had not happened her whole life (which I will accept as a writer thing. but she really looked at a picture of someone glowing bc of an infection and went 😮). Girlie managed a whole ship of sedated/crazy people and did not let anyone jump into the sun/warp core. Had a deep talk with La’an and revealed more of their shared history. Stunning. 10/10.
1x04 another case of I can’t complain. As my favorite character I want her to be happy, but I will take some internal bleeding and other catastrophic injuries. As a treat. The sheer power of ordering the medical staff to give away her blood transfusion and then knocking herself out before they could argue. Unparalleled. Had no impact on the main plot but what she did do in her sphere of influence was important and exemplary. I’ll take it. 7/10.
1x05: back at it again with the b-plot but I AM HERE FOR IT. GIVE ME LA’AN AND UNA BEING GOOFY. Loved the death glare at Joseph so he would confess and how she pretended not to be huffy about her nickname. La’an went can we… play a game… and Una went YEs sounds educational. For science. The look of absolute shock and betrayal when La’an shot her and her little “ow.” “People are idiots. You’re fun.” La’an went lol my childhood was a bleak horror scape and Una went absolutely NOT I’m going to commit crimes to rectify this. I like people having wacky misadventures while the plot is plotting somewhere. 8/10.
1x06 Chris forgot her name. She had to leave so she wouldn’t verbally tear him to shreds in front of his crew. Most likely explanation. Where was she I miss her. 4/10.
1x07: she locked the pirates out of the ship!!! We love a competent first officer shooting people on her bridge. She shook her head half an inch and Spock went absolutely whatever you say. Chris was thrown to the floor in front of her and she crossed her arms and watched him get up. “We’re starting a mutiny.” "Someone's breaking the rules today." Legitimately appreciated her teamwork with Chris in planting the mutiny idea. Would love to see it again sometime. 7/10.
1x08: bow and arrow. She checked on Joseph after and I appreciated that they carried that through from her finding out about Rukiya before. Una was here but she wasn't Una. Also. If we're real she wasn't really there. I liked the eye shadow though. 5/10.
1x09: "you should really try the omelet." The breakfast scene is my favorite and in fact the only scene. Nothing else happened with Hemmer or Spock or anyone. Really short episode. I would have liked to have seen her face when Chris snapped the tongs. She tried to follow the shuttle to the surface with scans and Chris went nah babe we're fine. Let her do her job Chris. Breakfast scene 10/10. Episode 5/10.
1x10: notable by her absence. She checked on Chris and once again told him to live his life. She's not there in the future but I won't take points for that because Chris immediately went where is my bestie. I cannot function without my work wife where is she. Her arrest kick-started the series and for our cliffhanger she was arrested again. I'm sensing a theme. What will they incarcerate her for next and how will Chris break her out this time. I will always appreciate Chris going absolutely feral for his first officer/life partner. 9/10.
2x01: prison. She tells Chris not to be stupid and he goes don't tell me what to do *cough* I love you *cough* Not a strong start for our girl but I trust her to overcome. Once again Chris is going off on a mission to save her. Lost points for the brevity of her appearance and the weird black jumpsuit. 4/10.
2x02: Girl sat in a chair and watched her friends say nice things about her for days. I would shrivel up and die. Una looks teary. Her lawyer put some heat on a guy who said he would NEVER hire Una if he knew her real race and Una said that was too mean leave him alone. La'an confessed her feelings in public. Spock gave the whole courtroom a heart attack to make Una smile. Chris hugged her looking panicky. please don't go away again. Una looked at Chris like she wanted to kiss him or perhaps sip one milkshake through two straws. The whole episode is about how great she is. 15/10.
2x03: unfortunately for most of this episode she did not exist. Liked the professional and sassy attitude towards Pelia but I must reduce points for Una not existing. 2/10.
2x04: Una succumbed to a disease she should canonically be immune to. Fridged almost immediately. Chris said I need some good fighters and took his doctor instead of his super strong first officer who was familiar with the terrain. Una called Chris out on relationship nonsense like the og she is but this cannot repair the damage. Drove me to writing fix-it fic. -10/10.
2x05: Una is canonically one of the girls. She hangs out with some very specific junior officers including her emotionally constipated son and her traumatized daughter. She laughs very loudly and I like to think the writers are purposefully making her more open now that people know her genetics secret. Tells Mr. Spock how to be a Vulcan. Part of a lineup to talk to Spock and is a head taller than the rest of the line. All in all a great time. 9/10.
2x06: she yells at her former professor who is also thousands of years old. I would simply perish. "yoU HaVe CruMBs oN yOuR uNifOrM" Starfleet said we need someone to get this defunct and thus far unmanageable station up and running. Send Una. "Oh good, I was afraid I'd miss the speech." Rebecca Romijn note- she is nine inches taller than Carol Kane, but she manages to look/act a lot younger and smaller than normal. Pelia takes about 14 seconds to get Una teary eyed. "My final paper was METICULOUSLY researched." 8/10.
2x07: "That's ridiculous, we can't just 'Not Look.'" "Like... a p i n - u p p o s t e r?" Girl is constantly baffled the whole time. One (1) young man was unnerved by her and she went he knows how I die. She then winked at him and he almost had a stroke. We see a picture of her as she is idolized in the future. Excellent. Different flavor than 2x06 but still 8/10.
2x08: lots of Significant Eye Contact with Chris. She said if you don't get this ship where it's going asap I will revoke your command and drive us there myself. "Everyone is on their own journey." I feel like she knows Joseph murdered a man in sickbay but we don't know for sure. She's out here being a competent first officer and telling the captain how the crew is feeling. I like the reminder of her priorities. Chris is here to explore and it's Una's job to make sure he has a functional crew to do so. 6/10.
2x09: Una Chin-Riley, musical theater nerd, had the absolute time of her life and I am so happy for her. Girl JUMPED into that first song with much soulful pushing of buttons. "A surprisingly beautiful baritone." Chris asked Uhura the singer how musicals work and Una answered. Is feeling her feelings so much these days she started singing about her job. Waltzed through the halls with James T Kirk. La'an went I would like to not do this please and Una said feel your feelings. Fly away with me. Accept yourself. Love yourself. "You came in here hot. On fire. It's making me sweat." The whole ship is singing and La'an is making friends. This was the best day of Una's life. 1000/10.
2x10: Una volunteered for a dangerous forbidden mission to save her husband's gf and spent the whole time stalking around the bridge like a tiger or a mom looking for sales at Target and giving hopeful speeches. She did tell Spock his gf might be dead but if you want to look for her go for it champ. "ORDERS CAPTAIN" Chris is hanging on by a thread. Una is the thread. Not a great end if I'm honest but she did look fantastic walking around murderously. 5/10.

Hi Y'all! I'm gonna try to get back on here! (Y'all can skip this if you want!)
Hi ❤️ ok so I hope y'all are all doing well! I know it's been I've a year since I've posted anything really or like done any interaction and stuff. But towards the end of the summer I got really busy getting ready to go back to school and then my anxiety about interacting with like anyone started acting up and like it kinda just stayed there for a while. And then I also kinda got distracted a little bit from Peaky Blinders and writing stuff, but I'm gonna try to get back on here now. I will admit I haven't been looking at to many things for Peaky Blinders recently as I've been a bit more into other shows and have been watching them more than reading lately (EX: X-Files (Fox Mulder), Star Trek SNW (Spock), Star Trek TOS (Kirk), Justified, All the CSI's, Criminal Minds, etc).
But yeah like that's been happening and I feel bad because I kept meaning to get back on and then I didn't. But I think it should be all good now. I just stared my senior year in college, and I've started anxiety meds which have helped a lot, and I've got a remote internship I'm still going to be doing for a bit so I still can't say how regularly I'll be posting or getting on here but I just wanted to start trying to do it again, without maybe going to fast and scaring myself off again😅 Also Tumblr seems to have glitches and deleted a few messages on my end that were sent to me but I don't get a chance to respond to to if y'all sent something and I did't see it I'm very sorry. I tumblr seems to be giving me issues about working it on my phone right now which is how I usually do it all. And I'm going to try and up date that.
In terms of works written works, the WIP list I made like a year ago is still the current list of what's finished along with a small number of incorrect quotes and random stuff I need to filter through. I do have one story I'm going to try and post right after this before I go to classes again and then I'll try checking in back after I finish work today. So that will be updated. And then I've been stuck writing lately so I'm going to slowly trying to start getting back into it!
But yeah... that's all I can think of for now. I'm not sure what else to say really but that I hope y'all are doing well and thank you to everyone who enjoyed my stories even when I was gone, I'm glad that I could hopefully brighten you day a bit:)

You read my mind!Which is why I wanted to combine these 2 together: A betazoid and a vulcan! But SNW version (because I like Ethan Peck, his granpa was THE GREGORY PECK!)
OMG STOP NO WONDER HE LOOKS SO FAMILIAR. This is such a cool idea!
A/N: I'm not 100% familiar with the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Plot since I just started watching the show. I took a little inspiration from Star Trek: The Next Generation because I'll pull most of my Betazoid knowledge from there. Also, Betazoids have telepathic abilities. As far as I know, Vulcans have telepathic abilities through the Mind Meld, but for the sake of this fan fiction, Spock also have regular telepathic abilities, though perhaps not as advanced as the readers. Purple text is telepathic thoughts.
A/N 2: I hope you like it! It's kind of wonky, but I may write a part 2 because of it. I hope it's not too vague!
MASTER LIST
Pop of Color
Spock x F! Betazoid (Star Trek: Strange New Worlds; Inspo from The Next Generation)
Word Count: 696
Summary: Y/N is the ship's quartermaster - while serving as the ship's emergency seamstress, aside from Lieutenant Kirk constantly finding himself at her office, Spock tagging along with him to ensure that his Lieutenant actually gets his clothes mended - and maybe start bringing his own clothes to be mended.
First Officer Spock. “Lieutenant Kirk, you’re not here because you need to switch your quarters again, are you?”
Ms. Y/N. Sorry for Intruding. Again. Spock sighed as Y/N chuckled, both of them watching as Lieutenant Kirk unloaded a bag of ripped-up uniforms and trousers, and handed them to her.
“Oh Y/N, you know me!” Lieutenant Kirk chuckled bashfully as he handed her.
“You know me, I’m the ship’s seamstress at this point, gentlemen.” Y/N briefly looked through the uniforms and placed them to the side, “I’ll have them done by the end of the week, Lieutenant.”
Smiling at her, the young Lieutenant gave her a thumbs up, then turned around and went on his merry way, leaving Spock and Y/N in her office, Spock sighing once more.
I don’t understand how you don’t find him amusing, Mr. Spock. One thing Y/N appreciated about Spock was his telepathic abilities, though perhaps not as great as hers, she found that it reminded her of home.
His behavior is very illogical and carefree, Miss Y/N. Spock shook his head slightly. But I have to get back to the bridge. Spock started to turn around but stopped when Y/N spoke to him again.
You don’t need anything mended, Mr. Spock? Y/N smiled gently at the Vulcan, who turned his head back to her, the corner of his mouth curving upward ever so slightly.
Not today, Miss Y/N.
“Captain Pike, I know you’re nervous about this ceremony, but I need you to please stand still,” Y/N exhaled sharply as she placed several pins in her mouth, one by one sticking them through the Captain’s green dress uniform so that it would fit him more snuggly.
“I’m sorry, Miss L/N, but are you sure I need to be here for this? You couldn’t have gotten my measurements from my file.”
“Yes, I could’ve, but remember what happened last time?” Y/N stood up from her stool and beckoned him to undress, Spock looking at her and Captain Pike in amusement as the Captain undressed, mumbling under his breath, “Your other green dress uniform ended up being too small, Captain.”
Y/N wrote down the correct measurements of her Captain, then turn towards Spock, “Alright, Mr. Spock, your turn.” Y/N beckoned the Vulcan to step up before her. C’mon, Mr. Spock, I might as well take your measurements too, just in case.
“I assure you, I do not need my measurements taken, Miss Y/N.” An eyebrow rose, which did nothing to hide the ever-so-slight green flush of his cheeks that Y/N manage to catch. She shot him a small smirk and beckoned him once more to step in front of her as she sat back down on her stool. No need to be shy, Mr. Spock. You know I don’t bite. It’ll be quick.
“Make it quick, Miss Y/N,” Spock chuckled as he approached her, allowing her to line her tape measure along different parts of his body, Captain Pike enjoying the scene, “No, please take your time Miss L/N.”
See, doesn’t it fit better now? Y/N approached Spock and stood beside him. He’d opted to wear his formal uniform that she’d previously made alterations on, and added a few touches of her own.
Yes… But you could’ve done without the… embellishments, Miss Y/N.
Y/N chuckled at the telepathic groan that Spock gave her. A ‘thank you’ would suffice, Mr. Spock. Wouldn’t you rather be overdressed than underdressed? I know I would. Y/N met the Vulcan’s eyes and winked at him. His eyes traveled quickly from Y/N’s eyes to her colorful and embellished attire. He couldn’t help but agree, accepting her point. Point taken, Miss Y/N. Care for a drink?
An ensign walked up to them with a tray of alcoholic beverages.
Oh please!
Nodding, Spock took a hold of two glasses, one for himself, and handed the other to Y/N, “Thank you, my dear.”
When did we get so acquainted, Miss Y/N?
When you admitted that you like the embellishments I added to your uniform, Mr. Spock.

time to rethink things on my part [brought to you by me being kinda tired reading how “Spock was always serious in TOS” (even though this post won’t really be about TOS, but it made me remember some things)]
this is “canon compliant” with TOS, Discovery, and SNW up to episode 7. And it’s just my own interpretation. I’m writing this to fit my own reading of Treks I watch and I’m reusing things I’ve said before.
The first time we see adult Spock is in Short Treks: Q&A when he’s beaming aboard the Enterprise for the first time, smiling. During the episode he also starts to sing and laughs. Una told him to hide this part of himself, and he tried... but it’s not like he was that successful. Spock smiling and laughing was something that he did, not always, but he was someone who expressed happiness.
cue The Cage
In Discovery, after he gets better and reunites with Pike, he greets him with a smile. Is that a smile on your face? - I believe it is.
Spock doesn’t shy from expressing his joy.
But then Michael leaves him behind and Spock starts to grieve. And it’s during this period when T’Pring approaches him and wants to move their relationship forward. (I can’t believe I realized this today...) And Spock, who respects his father, and their culture, goes along with it, even though he’s still in pain because of Michael. He likes T’Pring, but isn’t in love with her. He doesn’t believe that Vulcan relationships are based on love.
“You are not capable of love. (...) You are Vulcan, and you will always be cold and distant, like a moon somewhere.”
“An Earth woman, living on a planet where love, emotion, is bad taste.”
He most likely doesn’t expect to ever fall in love.
But then Chapel appears on the Enterprise and she immediately starts being interested in Spock, and starts to tease him and bantering with him. With her, he starts to feel comfortable with being less Vulcan again (not for the first time, mind you). And he’s attracted to her, feels something for her, and wants her. He starts to smile, he starts to laugh, not just around her, but with others too. He starts to experiment with hunches. Right now, he’s riding on his experience of being fully human. He’s fine with things now that he will vehemently deny seven eight years in the future.
But he won’t bury them. At times, he will slip. At times, he will use them deliberately.
Chapel isn’t someone who makes Spock “unSpock-like”; she actually allows him to be who he wants to be, which is something that neither Kirk or McCoy allowed in TOS because both had certain expectations. And Spock isn’t truly himself with either of them. He might slip occasionally, though.
I understand that the fandom thinks that Kirk sees “Spock”, but he doesn’t. His constant reminder to others that “he’s half-human too” and saying stuff like “we may make a human of you yet” ignores that at this point in time, Spock wants to follow Vulcan philosophy, and doesn’t appreciate being reminded that his Vulcaness is not 100%. McCoy, on the other hand, only sees Spock as a Vulcan, which Spock appreciates, but sometimes McCoy fails to see that it’s not that simple and crosses lines when he’s angry (or rather he’s typically worried which shows as anger).
There’s also always an air of professionalism between Kirk and Spock & McCoy and Spock, which Spock uses to logic himself out of thinking too deeply about how important McCoy and Kirk are to him. In SNW now, he is still way more open about this with Pike, for example.
Pike: You are very important to me.  Spock: As you are to me, Captain. Chris.
(tos!Spock - Don’t grieve, Admiral - would never)
---
anyway, maybe when s2 is over, I’ll change my mind, but this seems to work for me atm. If your interpretation of Kirk and Spock’s relationship is different, please, keep it to yourself. I’m not interested. I’ve watched TOS episodes so many times that I know what I feel about Spock and Kirk and their friendship.
Not understanding someone completely doesn’t mean you can’t be close friends or brothers.

rules: tag nine people you want to get to know better
three ships: Christopher Pike/Una Chin-Riley (Star Trek: Strange New Worlds), Aaron Hotchner/Emily Prentiss (Criminal Minds), Ted Lasso/Rebecca Welton (Ted Lasso)
first ship: I mean, I think technically I’ve probably been shipping people in my heart my entire life, but the first I had any sort of active fandom engagement with was Mulder and Scully.
fave color: Probably teal
last song: I’ll Get the Coffee by Kathryn Gallagher
last movie in the theatre: I took my kids to see Matilda a few weeks ago
last show: As in live show, or as in tv show? Live show was the Strictly Come Dancing tour. Last TV show I watched was episode 1x04 of Ted Lasso.
currently watching: For the first time, series 3 of Picard, The First Lady miniseries, and Yellowjackets. I’m also rewatching Ted Lasso (one episode per day, leading up to season 3!) and Criminal Minds.
currently reading: I just finished the amazing ‘Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow’ and I haven’t started anything new yet, but I bought the first SNW tie-in novel, ‘The High Country’ today, so that will probably be next.
currently working on: The same fic about Una’s trial that’s been eating my brain for months, but that I’m determined to finish before season 2 airs. (With occasional digressions into a Claire/Owen missing scene for Jurassic World: Dominion that popped into my head and won’t go away.)
current obsession: I’ve got it pretty bad for Criminal Minds again recently, in addition to the Star Trek obsession that’s always ticking away underneath everything else.

i've been watching the winchesters since the start but without really caring about it online... well today i went into the tag out of sheer curiosity to see what the tumblrinas were saying about it and pretty much all i saw besides gifs was stuff about destiel and people complaining about plot inconsistencies. sigh. I was not only reminded of why I don't check tags very often but also of the good old tjlc days with this stuff,,, and people doing the same in the star trek snw fandom. anyway, I like the show, I love carlos & lata & ada, and since I remember almost none of spn because I've only seen it once as it aired, I have no idea what it's getting wrong and therefore I'm not only enjoying it but like it more. it has light. it has cool 70s outfits. it has interesting characters. they're besties, they're a family, they're a polycule, take your pick. it's funny how it parallels spn with the missing dad plot actually!! and just because john isn't a total arsehole now it doesn't mean he can't become one over time :) I'd love to see it yknow <3

So I followed you for hiddles, and here I am becoming increasingly obsessed with the american variant and I’ve been watching SNW all week 😂😭 are there any of his other shows or movies you’d recommend?
Tumblr media
Hiya! Well, I guess that's a hazard of following this blog these days.
As someone who only started paying attention to him when he was on Discovery in 2019, here are my thoughts...
I am not going to sit through every B movie he's made over the years. The Anson from 20 years ago, 15 years ago, maybe even 10 years ago doesn't appeal to me. Something has happened to this man as he has gotten older. It isn't just a physical aging, it's also his growth as an actor and I am sure he has also been impacted by life experience. He's just seasoned now and it is a thing of beauty.
I haven't watched Hell On Wheels because it appeared rather dire and depressing to me when I first heard about it and as much as I usually like seeing a good actor in distress, I often avoid something when it is the current good actor who has taken my fancy. However, there are five seasons to get through, so that could occupy you for a while. :)
If you've already seen SNW, I recommend giving Discovery a try. It's very different in some major ways, so be prepared. @happycabbage and I just watched his episode of CSI:Miami and he was what I thought he would be: a sort of semi-douchy suspect. I just today watched the episode of Law and Order he was on and I remembered it. I remembered thinking that the actor (I didn't know his name at the time) was great for the specifics of the character, it was perfect casting. Give that a whirl.
To sum up, having not seen his entire body of work, I would say his best years are now and I would watch the episode of L&O, Discovery and Hell On Wheels.
Okay, fine, I have one more comment...I saw a quote from him that he never got period pieces because casting directors told him that he looked too "contemporary" and that makes me very curious which roles he wanted and/or actually got to audition for but did not get.
I lied, I have another comment...like his OG, I really hope the future offers him more comedy because he has talent for it and that aspect of his skills has been under-used so far.
Thanks for the message!

This picture just makes me happy. I was born long after the 60s, as with many others, TNG was the first new Trek I remember but I did watch the original Star Trek first [1]—it's still where it all started for me, the ur-text and I love it. A lot of my Disco commentary has been critical, so was my lone ENT post—of course I think my criticisms are valid but at the same time, I'd like some posts that aren't just complaints on this site. Not to say that TOS was without plenty of flaws of its own but obviously it's why the whole franchise exists and it's what set the template for the franchise to endure—memorable characters, thought-provoking stories, and a future where, despite our differences, humanity could work together as equals. But also—and perhaps lost in TNG-era stuffiness—is Star Trek is fun, TOS was fun [2].
I think that's something obscured in the sometimes heady concepts and messages about humanity and the aforementioned stuffiness is that Trek has always also been about action and adventure, it's always been entertainment in the best sense of the word. Maybe today some of the fun of TOS is from elements that now come across as a bit campy ...the series is certainly of its time, and its budget constraints can show but also they were certainly not playing it safe (you might even say they were going boldly (I know, I know). TOS gave us rollicking stories in a way I'm not sure any of the subsequent series quite have—and I'm not sure they can or could have. Add to this though, the thoughtfulness of the best episodes and—again, despite budget constraints—fictional technology that had a certain plausibility to it: communicators, phasers, tricorders and the Enterprise itself, a spacecraft unlike any that had been seen before, sitting in a space (no pun intended) a little between golden age sci-fi and "realistic" sci-fi, a space wholly its own.
In a sense, the 2009 movie and Into Darkness were rebooting Star Trek but they didn't exactly reboot TOS—they had versions of the same characters and they had Starfleet and the Enterprise but they weren’t necessarily trying to capture a certain essence of TOS in the way they did in Beyond and that's a shame because Beyond demonstrated it could be done. The easy thing to point to with Star Trek is that it presented an optimistic future but perhaps something people forget is that a lot of the magic of TOS was because of the characters and, crucially, character dynamics which, Devin Farci aptly points out here [3], the team behind Beyond got right in a way the first two movies didn't. The series that came after TOS added their own spins on the world established in TOS...which speaks to the strength of the concept beyond TOS's particular flavor but while the specifics were different, many of Trek's best moments came out of character and the dynamics between those characters.
The first season of Strange New Worlds is airing and I like what I've seen so far a lot: the characters are just about all interesting and distinct and the actors have brought plenty of humanity to them. It's not at all shying away from being a true TOS prequel even if it's also stretching canon at times (as I believe the producers have admitted). I'm sure I'll write more about SNW in the future but while definitely TOS prequel of a sort it's also not trying to be TOS, nor should it be, it's its own thing with familiar elements but I feel like they're conscious of TOS in a way that oddly the first two Kelvinverse movies weren't—there's an ethos there that I think takes cues from TOS without copying it entirely. But naturally, TOS is The Original Series for a reason—you can only be first once, it still has its own distinct vibe that's never going to be duplicated completely and it has those particular characters and the actors that played them, that originated them. So as we get new adventures on the Enterprise, here's to the original, the granddaddy of them all—TOS which was so original it was actually originally just called, well, Star Trek. ■
______________________
Notes: [1] How wild is it now to think back to when Trek canon was only the three seasons of TOS? Then TOS, the movies and early TNG? When now, as I write this there are have been about 829 episodes of all series? And 9ish more movies... [2] Credit Devin Farci for putting it that way. [3] Yes, more from Devin Farci on Star Trek.

i am soo happy about the nb char and trans char in discovery omg i knew the nb char earlier cos it was leaked amongst trek circles months back but i was meh about it since i thought they just cast a woman in the role
today i find out they cast a trans actor and a nb actor in the trans and nb roles. i can't even imagine holy shit never did i think this would happen in star trek explicitly for a major char in the main crew and now we finally have that
i think previously the only nb char i was fond of that comes to my mind is zer0 who even suffers from misgendering all the time in game and by creators so while i'm really attached to them it's clear the writers don't really give a fuck or bothered developing them as a char. now we finally have adira and gray in trek and o man can't put into words what it's gonna be like watching them on screen
it still doesn't negate the fact discovery treated ash/shazad like absolute trash and threw the only other south asian char since bashir to the curb, and modern trek is still incredibly pale looking considering all the new additions and the greenlighting of snw which just fucks me over again but it's a start at least for chars who are not cis being openly and explicitly existing in star trek canon, instead of vague allegories like dax or odo or single one off episodes like the andro race in the outcast

SNW S1E9+10 Liveblog
the stars have finally aligned (@ichayalovesyou you’ve been groundbreaking here) and i’m going to finish the first season of snw today! i’m so scared
Episode 9: All Those Who Wander
- i’m going to start out before the episode starts that it’s a shame the season only has 10 episodes. while i like the length of my british shows being like 6-15 because that’s how they do it, it’s a bit weird coming from american shows and i feel we lose out on a lot of good character time. if there’s a production reason for this, i hope its for labor reasons and not overworking people.
- 01:07 NO WHAT DO YOU MEAN UHURA’S ASSIGNMENT HERE IS OVER i love her your honor don’t leave
- 01:12 oh hey Deep Space Station K-7! my first star trek episode was trouble with tribbles :D
- 02:56 congratulations Lt Duke!
- 06:30 Rule 1 of D&D: don’t split the party!
- 08:01 Sam!!
- 10:55 starfleet might want to issue hats as standard uniform for cold weather, especially for human personnel. we lose a lot of heat there
- 11:13 star trek woke up today and decided to be a horror show
- 11:50 “Hem?” that’s so cute!
- 13:17 HORRIFYING. also really nice tilt on the bedrock! if only this place wasn’t so creepy...
- 13:49 gorn? fascinating. wonder how they’ll continue to handle the gorn through this episode and series. i know there’s been some debate.
- 14:05 well... we’re here now. sorry about that captain gavin. la’an saying what i’m thinking yeah
- 16:11 “the universal translator isn’t processing it. uhura do something.” “that’s not how linguistics works!” @gracelessace confirm?
- 18:09 “one does not take pride in logic” have you met yourself spock?
- 19:37 oh. this. this is hitting hard. i know hemmer is talking to uhura, but. maybe we’re quite alike, where she is now. huh.
- 19:44: HEMMER DON’T CALL ME OUT LIKE THIS. IT HURTS. STOP. I CAME TO THIS EPISODE FOR A FUN TIME AND THEN A SPOOKY TIME. I DON’T NEED TO INTROSPECT RIGHT NOW IT MIGHT BREAK ME. PLEASE. hemmer’s going to be my comfort character now i guess
- 21:00 a) la’an i understand where you’re coming from but yelling at a child won’t fix things b) DOCTOR. OW.
- 25:06 oh i have a bad feeling about this
- 26:10 CADET! BUCKLEY! NO! (also baby gorn are kinda creepy and weirdly kinda cute? it’s so small? also we are in Alien here this is a completely different sci-fi property now) nope not cute anymore that’s cannibalism
- 27:20 ah jeez duke too? man just made lieutenant! he and chia are blue and gold shirts!
- 27:50 hey spock. where are you going
- 30:58 watch the ceilings is good advice. about anything really. no one ever looks up. it’s a great place to hide if you can get there.
- 43:08 hey wait what? hemmer?? no?!
- 43:42 we’ve barely gotten to know him! what the feck!
- 43:50 the needs of the many
- 45:54 just like andoria. goodbye chief hemmer. 19:44, uh. oh dear.
- 46:43 i’ve missed ortegas this episode. but after what happened to hemmer. that was probably for the best. and that was a hell of a eulogy.
well. that was. ouch. surely the season finale can cheer us up!
Episode 10: A Quality of Mercy
- 01:48 ooh noodles yum!
- 03:35 paused on the map to check against my own and there’s Wolf 359! Ack! Also my map doesn’t actually make sense i checked some of the stars against their real counterparts and one star that is supposed to be closer to us is further than a star that is supposed to be further. whoops!
- 03:45 horse girl chris’ saddle in the background i see you
- 04:20 oh no captain i know what you’re thinking bad idea abort abort
- 05:21 😬
- 05:38 hoh don’t do it don’t do it captain i know you’re trying to help mark me it’ll make it worse don’t do it man
- 05:56 that’s some good text to speech ai glad to see the future perfected that CHRIS STOP IT YOU’RE SCARING ME (lars you too)
- 06:02 OH GOD HE’S DOING IT
- 06:07 TIME SHENANIGANS WHODA THUNK YOUR ACTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES AND ALL OF THEM ARE BAD
- 06:15 when i first started playing sto (i never did missions i just naffed off to ds9) i started playing during delta recruitment. which is a time travel plot. the game started out with a future me coming back to talk to present me. i thought i was stupid for it. turns out i’m the same intelligence as pike. love you man, but none if this has been your best idea.
- 08:39 “i’Ve BeEn DoInG tHiS lOnG eNoUgH i’M nOt JuSt GoInG tO tAkE tHe WoRd Of SoMeOnE wHo SaYs He’S fUtUrE mE” normally good advice but in this case. we’re well past that. (i feel like i’m being harsh but i am loving this i want to put pike in a box and shake it)
- 09:12 DTI is glad they don’t exist yet pike could keep them busy until they get created.
- 09:37 complications
- 09:39 “unforeseen” consequences works too
- 09:48 yeah that’s the issue with visiting yourself in person. bc now he kind of... has to? to make sure he doesn’t? i hate the grandfather paradox
- 09:54 “causality is complex” YEAH MATE IT SURE IS
- 10:08 where do you think the boreth monks got the idea from?
- 11:04 i’m loving how time crystals tend to be green. that’s what they should be!
- side note: The Kingdom of Elysian is probably my favorite this season because of how ridiculous it was and then it made me cry, but already this one is a VERY close second or even tied. it just gives me everything
- 12:05 i’ve seen this before. in tos. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm whathaveyoudone
- 12:15 wow ethan peck sounds just like leonard nimoy here
- 12:23 uhura’s comms console is in the correct spot now! oh no This is Balance of Terror with the wrong captain 😬
- 12:45 sooo a) what happens to ortegas in the prime timeline b) where is sulu in this timeline (watsonian. i know doyalistically he’s not been cast) hang on was sulu in balance of terror yes he was
- 13:18 stiles isn’t here either. he was racist against spock, so kind of important to the original way of things. what does that mean here? at any rate, this timeline isn’t happening yet, it’s just a vision of what would happen if pike sent the letter, which he hasn’t yet so none of this is technically happening.
- 13:51 Spock you- you time travelled already in TOS S1E4. yeah it’s not likely but it’s possible (of course with a different captain they may not have time travelled at the end of The Naked Now like they did under Kirk. and like i said this isn’t happening actually. for admiral!pike it did and captain!pike it might and this is showing captain if that might becomes will so yeah he hasn’t technically time travelled but it’s still under the purview of temporal mechanics)
- 19:00 “Captain James Kirk.” “Sam’s brother?” AHAHAHAHA get wrecked jim
- 19:05 the music! it’s the tos theme!! i love you Nami Melumad
- 19:18 i watched Friendly Space Ninja’s 2.5 hour essay on the Vampire Diaries yesterday. the whole time i was losing it when Paul Wesley was on screen. i’ve never seen The Vampire Diaries outside of that video and Jenny Nicholson’s, but now i’m losing it the other way. what have i done to myself?
- 20:26 why is that seat the racist seat for this mission don’t make ortegas do this i love her
- 21:47 Sam is still here! If we were in TOS, he dies at the end of this season on Deneva.
- 23:57 i’m going to ask what the feck is up with m’benga and bones. bc in tos m’benga works under bones, when he was the cmo himself 7 years beforehand. and bones isn’t in this timeline. stiles, ortegas, sulu, bones... were they all affected by the letter somehow?
- 30:54 the captains are fighting... i feel like i’m starting ds9 again lol
- 32:49 what have you done to the romulans’ stupid little shoulder pads?!
- 39:04 kirk checking spock out. so much is wrong with this timeline but it’s good to see some things never change!
- 40:56 SCOTTY
- 41:06 “I’m An EnGiNeEr, NoT a MiRaCle WoRkEr” god i love this episode
- 42:29 THAT’S A LOT OF ROMULAN SHIPS
- 45:19 that’s really smart captain kirk unfortunately i think you just made things worse and started a war
- 48:28 so what’s different is that instead of destroying themselves, the bird-of--prey was destroyed by the romulan praetor. who saw footage of it attacking outpost 4 and declared “it shouldn’t have gotten caught.” whereas this was the end of the matter for kirk, it can now be claimed the enterprise destroyed the bird-of-prey and the entire romulan armada can and will most likely back that up. if they weren’t given time to repair, as in the prime timeline, the bird-of-prey second in command couldn’t have called for the armada and none of this would have happened.
- 52:11  spock took pike’s fate in every other timeline
- 58:40 I can see why Spock commits mutiny for this man. They care about each other very much.
- 01:00:10 okay happy music fading out to a transporter announcement cannot be good news
- 01:00:39 they’re arresting Number One
- 01:00:56 who snitched
- 01:01:11 prison break next season let’s gooooo
- 01:01:26 NOT PIKE LOOKING INTO THE CAMERA ALL ANGRY LIKE GO RAISE HELL MAN
WOW THAT WAS CERTAINLY AN EPISODE WHEN’S SEASON TWO

snw #9 (rewatch)
- hmmmmmmmmmmmmm La’an said she was with Dr. Sanchez, a headshrinker... is it the same Dr. Sanchez that was in TOS or is it just a name coincidence again (like Mitchell + Mitchell - even though we don’t know if that is just “a same name no relation” yet). Like Kyle is there now and will be in TOS too [like there’s nothing wrong with having same names, because people have same names without any relations, but it’s fiction].
- I still hate that they made Sam Kirk be the one insulting Spock (I mean as long as they also make it a thing with Jim Kirk at least once or twice in snw, then I’ll take it back, but if they ignore that Kirk was all “Will you try for one moment to feel? At least act like you've got a heart.” in WNMHGB then like it’s just erasing so much from their relationship) [I just want them to respect that Kirk wasn’t always respectful towards Spock; he did not understand Spock from the get go; sure he was impressed, he was intrigued, they bonded over loyalty, duty, mutual admiration, and chess, but Kirk was not 100% respectful until the very end. Still funny that their last conversation ever ended with Spock being “don’t be insulting” because Kirk called him human.]
- ah, okay, it was not just Hemmer’s death that affected Spock. It was Duke’s, too, and his own helplessness, then lowering his shields and then not being able to get them up again. I wonder if that will still continue in s2 (would probably explain a few things in the trailers). Kinda feels like they aim to completely break Spock, in order for him to become tos!Spock, but I feel like they forgot that Spock was still quite emotional at the beginning of s1 - smiling and shouting, still being quite violent etc. But we’ll see, maybe it’ll track. The thing is... Spock had a breakdown in Discovery, Kirk’s 5ym led him to Gol to purge his emotions*, and now they want to break him in order to make him less emotional... it just feels a bit too excessive
I guess this post is still very relevant...
* maybe that’s why they made it a point that it’s something all Vulcans do, so it doesn’t feel like Spock had a breakdown and decided to purge his emotions because of that, but rather as the next step on his path to being a Vulcan because that’s what Vulcans do (maybe that was always what it was supposed to be, but the fandom (novels included) made it appear to be something different idk, like I said, I haven’t seen TMP (and I ignore kolinahr when thinking about fics set in the movie era), but it always seemed like the general consensus was that Spock chose kolinahr because he couldn’t handle his emotions anymore...)
- I wish they showed more scenes between Spock and Hemmer. There was so much potential lost in s1, I feel, just because they focused too much on romance with Spock (again, as you could notice, I don’t mind the romance and I enjoy it, I just kind of don’t get why that was what they went with. I would also love to see more Pike and Spock’s scenes, because at this point they still just work with nostalgia and viewers knowing that they’re supposed to be close... but getting those scenes would just mean more Spock screen time, which is also not something I want, so it’s just ugh LMAO I mean as long as they keep any Spock and Kirk’s scenes also this shallow, then it’s fine lol)
- SST has the next preview picture be of Kirk and I’d hate that so much if that was my first time watching. Season 2 seems to have just promo pictures rather than a screenshot from the episode, which is way better.
- I think I might watch episode 10 and then start season 2 today too, but we’ll see.
I do kind of nitpick and have thoughts lol but I genuinely enjoy SNW and am curious where some of the stuff will lead
